This morning assembly focuses on literature under censorship and bans, as well as on words that are written, read aloud – and sometimes silenced. The event is part of #forbiddenbooksweek.
Authors Kristina Stoltz and Uzma Akbari share their perspectives on literary freedom. Stoltz reads from Margaret Atwood's classic "The Handmaid's Tale", while Akbari introduces landai – an ancient Afghan oral poetry form where condensed poems have for generations been carried and shared by women in secret. She speaks about poetry as a language for experiences that cannot or must not be spoken aloud, and how the form continues to be used under extremely restricted conditions.
The morning assembly begins at 9.00 with community singing accompanied by pianist Louise Schrøder. Around 9.40, croissants and coffee are served.
Free entry, but registration is required.
