Experience authentic Jamaican roots reggae when singer Azizzi Romeo visits ALICE in October for a live dub set with Morten McCoy and Steve Borth II from the Copenhagen all-star ensemble Guiding Star Orchestra. Azizzi Romeo brings the legacy of classic roots reggae into contemporary sound through his debut album "Signs Of The Time", combining the characteristic 70s roots sound with modern production, profound spirituality and powerful messages about peace, community and hope.
Azizzi Romeo grew up in Linstead, Jamaica as the son of roots reggae legend Max Romeo. Music has been his world since childhood, and at age eight he performed as a lead singer in the duo Rominal alongside his brother. He toured the world with his father before developing his own artistic identity. Now he navigates between roots reggae's conscious traditions and electronically textured, introspective compositions.
The debut album "Signs Of The Time" is released just before the concert and marks his full debut as an independent artist. The songs are filled with warm grooves, distinctive bass lines and a clear ambition to bring people together in a time marked by division. With Guiding Star Orchestra—featuring Morten McCoy (Bremer/McCoy) and Steve Borth II (chllngr)—the music unfolds with both reverence for reggae's golden era and an eye toward the future. Particularly noteworthy is Max Romeo's vocal on the album, one of his final recordings before his passing.
