Meet New York Times bestselling author, activist, and artist Molly Crabapple for an engaging discussion about her new book Here Where We Live Is Our Country: The Story of the Jewish Bund. The event is hosted by Jøder for Retfærdig Fred af 5784 (JFRF) and explores her work in the context of the increasingly fascist world we inhabit today.
Molly presents her research on the Ashkenazi Jewish leftist radical movement, the Bund, and connects it to the broader history of the left, homemaking, identity formation, organizing, and resistance. Following 30 minutes of discussion, there will be a 30-minute Q&A session.
Molly Crabapple began as an artist at one of New York's most notorious nightclubs and later became a journalist sketching the frontlines of Occupy Wall Street. Since then, she has covered the Russian invasion of Ukraine, border conflicts, and social movements across the globe through words and art. As an award-winning animator, she has pioneered a new form of live-illustrated journalism, collaborating with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jay Z, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the ACLU. Her work is held in permanent collections at institutions including MoMA, the US Library of Congress, and the Guggenheim Museum.
The Jewish Labor Bund was once the most influential Jewish political force in Eastern Europe—secular, socialist, and uncompromisingly anti-Zionist. The Bundists fought for dignity and equality "here where we live," not in an imagined homeland in Palestine.
