Discover Spain's modern history through the work of celebrated director Carlos Saura. The lecture explores how this central figure in Spanish cinema navigated between artistic freedom and strict film censorship under the Franco regime.
Saura was the country's most acclaimed film director throughout the dictatorship period and created works that were celebrated both at home and internationally. In Denmark, he is particularly known for the masterpiece The Black Raven from 1976 and his later dance films, including the flamenco version of Carmen from 1983. Through his long career, the major transformations Spain underwent are reflected — not least the Spanish Civil War and the Franco period.
The lecture is presented by Anne Højgaard Christiansen in easy-to-understand Spanish with film clips from selected works. There will be time for questions in both Danish and Spanish.
The event concludes Studieskolen's commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War.
