Christina Dahl Trio emerges from the meeting of three distinctive artistic voices that merge into a single living musical expression. The trio consists of the award-winning saxophonist and composer Christina Dahl, bassist and composer Simon Toldam, and drummer Peter Bruun – three of Scandinavia's most respected and innovative jazz musicians.
The music springs from inner images and moods, unfolding across a rich spectrum of sonorities – from the simple, lyrical and almost whispering to dense pulsating movements and melodic layers. With open curiosity and artistic courage, the trio navigates between the fragile and the wild, where composition and improvisation are woven inseparably together. The result is original musical landscapes that reflect the eternal transformation of human existence and life itself.
The Artists
Christina Dahl received the Beckett Foundation's honor award "Artist of the Year" in 2023 and was nominated for the prestigious German Deutscher JazzPreis for instrumental album that same year. She has released 12 albums under her own name, taught at several Danish music conservatories, and received numerous awards including the Ben Webster Prize and the Bent Jædig Prize.
Simon Toldam is one of Scandinavia's most prominent musicians and a four-time recipient of the Danish Music Awards. His trio received "Best Album of the Year" at the Danish Music Awards Jazz 2019, and he is the official festival composer for the Cph Jazz Festival.
Peter Bruun is known from the experimental jazz scene and has received the Jazz Scholarship 2020. He has performed professionally since his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (Rytmisk Konservatorium) in Copenhagen.
The Album "Souls of the Wind"
The trio released the album Souls of the Wind on Zack's Music, supported by the Danish Arts Foundation (Statens Kunstfond), DJBFA, Danish Conductors Association, and KODA Kultur. As an extension, Christina Dahl has published a book of her own poems, with both music and text visually interpreted by photographer Maria Sattrup and graphic designer Mark Gry Christensen – a unified work where sound, word, and image merge.
