What can disruption achieve that arguments alone cannot? On this evening, rhetoric researcher Thore Keitum Fisker explores how civil disobedience—specifically road blockades—functions as political expression and strategy. Drawing on his fieldwork in the climate campaign Nødbremsen and inspired by philosopher Jacques Rancière, he develops a critical analysis of how the body becomes political when physically placed as an obstacle. A road blockade is not merely spontaneous frustration but strategic preparation—demonstrators train in remaining calm and meeting anger without escalation. Fisker has himself participated in several blockades and discusses the paradox that disruption both provokes opposition and makes a cause impossible to ignore. The talk series Verden forsøgt forklaret brings leading Danish researchers close to audiences with nuanced perspectives on current societal issues.
