English horn and chamber music take centre stage: Rixon Thomas and Felicia Greciuc meet with the Kapellet string quintet and pianist Ian Ryan for an intimate concert featuring Danish music by Hilda Sehested, Hans Abrahamsen and Vagn Holmboe in dialogue with classical works by Bach and Haydn.
The programme unfolds the English horn's warm, dark tone as both soloist and chamber music partner. Sehested's Two Fantasy Pieces allow the instrument to meet the string ensemble, while Abrahamsen's Herbstlied creates a subdued, poetic expression with English horn, string trio and piano. In an excerpt from Bach's Partita No. 2 – arranged by Alexandre Oguey – oboe and English horn engage in subtle conversation. Holmboe's Musik til Morten gives the oboe its own role in dialogue with the string quartet, and the concert concludes with Haydn's "Gypsy" piano trio arranged for English horn and string quintet, where the English horn again takes centre stage.
Following the concert, the three Danish works will be recorded for release on Dacapo Records, scheduled for March 2027.
