Experience an extraordinary fusion of literature and music when Haruki Murakami's universe meets live jazz on stage. Mette Holm, translator of Murakami's Danish editions, reads texts from the author while three talented musicians translate his words into jazz.
The event unfolds in two parts. In the first half, Murakami's short story "Charly Parker plays Bossa Nova" from the collection First Person Singular (2020) is explored. The question: how does a classic Charlie Parker tune sound when it meets bossa nova elements? And conversely — what happens when traditional bossa nova is subjected to Parker-inspired improvisation? Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 also plays a role in this musical exploration. After a brief intermission, 30 minutes of excerpts from Murakami's newer works follow.
Performers: Makiko Hirabayasi (piano), Jan Harbech (saxophone) and Morten Ankarfeldt (bass) create the music while Mette Holm guides us through the globally renowned author's work.
Admission: 180 DKK. Location: Kulturhuset BRØK.
