Imagine creating your own book – a space where you can explore your ideas, drawings, and the things you love or dream about, expressing who you truly are.
Under the guidance of Syrian visual designer and children's book creator Sara Khayat, you design your own book cover, choose a title, and decide what the story is about. You can draw, paint, and make collages using the library's discarded magazines and worn-out books that can no longer be borrowed.
The workshop is rooted in freedom of expression – the idea that everyone has a unique voice and the opportunity to express themselves creatively. It is part of the #ForbiddenBooks Campaign 2026, and Sara Khayat specializes in creative workshops for children. Since 2010, Copenhagen has been a member of the Cities of Refuge network, a global community of cities and regions offering sanctuary to writers, artists, and journalists persecuted for their work.
