The Munich-based German band Digital Carbs presents its latest work, the album Oh Hedonism, through a European tour that stops in Denmark. The band blends alternative rock elements with experimental instrumentation and socially critical messages in a musical confrontation with contemporary fragmentation and overstimulation.
Digital Carbs began as a solo project by frontman and bassist Johannes Rest in 2018, when he self-produced the debut album Are We Taking It Slowly. From that personal recording studio, the project has evolved into a four-piece ensemble consisting of Johannes Rest (vocals, bass), Konrad Diesch (drums), Daniel Bautista (guitar), and Markus "Willy" Willmann (guitar). The band's earlier EPs Conform Deform and Floods established them as constantly evolving musicians, known for intense live performances and a sound that defies genre classification.
Oh Hedonism showcases the band's most diverse expression to date. The album combines dreamy and dark atmospheres, surrealist imagery, and commentary on contemporary conditions with hypnotic and dynamic song structures. The instrumentation has been expanded with trumpet, piano, and banjo, which add new dimensions and textural layers to the music. The themes revolve around fragmentation, loss of control, and sensory experience in a world characterized by excessive stimulation.
