Experience Palestinian rapper and musician Elsusi presenting his blend of Arabic hip-hop, melodic songwriting and electronic rhythms. Elsusi was evacuated from Gaza through ICORN after fleeing bombardment and humanitarian catastrophe, and subsequently rebuilt his artistic work in Stavanger, Norway.
The evening consists of two parts. First, a conversation between Elsusi and Ole Reitov (spokesperson for Freemuse and member of Danish PEN) about artistic freedom under pressure and how music tells stories at risk of censorship or political reduction. Then Elsusi takes the stage with his repertoire, which circles around love, fatherhood, everyday life, displacement, identity and artistic freedom – from intimate to explosive performances.
The event is part of Danish PEN's Forbidden Books campaign and presented in collaboration with Copenhagen Municipality's Free City Programme, Union and Rapolitics. Admission: 50 DKK.
