Award-winning author Esther Kinsky visits Goethe-Institut Dänemark to discuss her literary work with literary critic Sophie Wennerscheid. In her books, Kinsky frequently explores landscapes, border zones and transitions through careful observation of places and their history, resulting in texts about humanity's relationship with the world.
The conversation will revolve around key questions such as: how do landscapes become narratives, and what traces does history leave in them? Particular focus lies on two of her works:
- Rombo (Suhrkamp, 2023) — here Kinsky addresses the 1976 earthquake in Friuli. Through the perspectives of various characters, the novel evokes the impact of a natural catastrophe and its lasting consequences.
- Hain: Geländeroman (Suhrkamp, 2019) — a poetic text that interweaves Kinsky's memories of personal loss with journeys through the central Italian landscape, exploring grief, perception and how places store and transform memories.
Kinsky's literary work, including the novels Am Fluss, Hain and Rombo, has received significant international recognition and has been translated into numerous languages.
Practical information: The event is held in German with Danish summaries. Doors open at 17:00, the conversation begins at 17:30. Free admission, but registration is required.
