CEPOS invites you to a thought-provoking afternoon where conservatism is examined both as an intellectual-historical tradition and a current political and cultural movement. In recent years, conservative ideas have gained renewed attention both domestically and internationally, with debates about tradition, nation, community, family, authority and institutions taking centre stage. The event addresses the question: Has the spirit of the times become conservative?
The meeting consists of two panel discussions. In the first part, the essence and intellectual history of conservatism are discussed – what fundamentally characterises conservatism, its view of humanity and society, and the tradition's historical relationship to liberalism, progress and change. In the second part, the current relevance of conservatism is examined, which movements are advancing, internal dividing lines and renewed interest in conservative ideas in Denmark, Europe and the USA.
Panel participants:
- Bent Meier Sørensen, professor and author
- Nikolaj Bøgh, municipal board member Frederiksberg (K)
- Signe Wolff Ravneberg, project consultant Tænketanken Prospekt
- Frederik Christensen, magazine editor and author
- Jeppe Bentzen, journalist Berlingske
