Hanne Fabricius presents her new work 'Global Women's Narratives in Denmark' (Turbine, 2025), where 21 women share their stories. Although women have shaped world history as much as men, they have often been overlooked in traditional narratives that primarily focus on male achievements.
The women featured have in common that, in addition to Danish culture, they carry another cultural background with them and feel that they contribute positively to Danish society. Some are descendants of immigrants from earlier generations, while others are themselves immigrants, refugees, children of refugees, or married to Danes.
The lecture explores across ethnicity, culture, and political positions what it is like to be a woman with another or additional ethnic background than Danish, and how these women experience living and life in Denmark as well as their encounter with Danish culture. This creates a cultural-historical snapshot of present-day Denmark.
