Experience classic copper engraving under the guidance of artist Heidi Borg in this intensive three-day course. You will receive solid instruction in this traditional graphic art form, where motifs are etched into copper plates and then printed onto paper.
The course covers all essential elements of copper engraving:
- Plate Preparation: Learn to prepare and handle copper plates, polishing and protection before etching.
- Chemistry and Etching: Gain insight into etching processes and work with various etching liquids to control depth.
- The Printing Press: Become familiar with press technique, correct plate placement, and printing pressure.
- Printing Ink and Paper: Experiment with different material combinations to achieve your artistic goals.
After the course's three days, you will be able to work independently with line etching, hard ground, and soft ground, and you will have built solid knowledge of technique and materials within copper engraving.
