A dark walking tour through Copenhagen from 1600 to 1900, when poverty and misery shaped lives and fates. Discover the fate of servant girls, children sold at auction, slum sisters, and women who fought against desperation.
The tour starts at Lurblæserne and Vester Voldgade, continues to Vartov's dark past – Christian IV's orphanage and workhouse, the hospital church where the sick watched services from their beds, fishwives shouted in the streets, and the condemned screamed from torture on Kagen. Further on, you meet the Girl with the Needle, stories of child auctions, and women who gave birth in secret.
The tour is harsh and not for the faint of heart – but happily ends on an optimistic note with a proper happy ending.
