A special city walk through Copenhagen's history from the 1600s to 1900s, where you encounter the forgotten stories of women and children in poverty. The tour covers the harsh lives under hardship – servant girls' secrets, children sold at auction, and women who fought for survival.
The walk starts at Lurblæserne and Vester Voldgade and takes you through key sites such as Vartov and Hospitalskirken, where patients listened to sermons from their beds while farm animals roamed the yard, as well as to places where fishwives traded and where unfortunate prisoners faced punishment on Kagen. An important part of the tour covers The Girl with the Needle and children who were sold at auction, as well as women who gave birth in secret and without help.
This is a challenging tour for adults interested in darker histories – but it happily ends on a positive note. The walk lasts approximately 90 minutes.
