Søren Hellerup returns to Copenhagen with the international monologue A PERFORMANCE, based on John Clancy's original and powerful text. After more than four decades of work in New York, Los Angeles, South America, Spain and Portugal, the Danish actor now returns to the Copenhagen theatrical stages.
In 2023, Hellerup received recognition for his striking portrayal of the father Ole in Isabella Ekløf's film adaptation of Kim Leine's novel Kalak – his first Danish film role since 1985. He has previously presented A PERFORMANCE in English to sold-out audiences in Portugal, where the work received enthusiastic reception. Now Danish audiences have the chance to see it for the first time in Danish.
The monologue explores the space between the intimate and the universal – it concerns presence, expectations, identity and standing on a stage before an audience. Beneath the seemingly simple surface lies a deeper question: WHAT IS THEATRE?
