KaniBalkan is a trio with deep roots in European traditional music, Roma music, and Balkan traditions. The band fuses classic songs with original compositions, driven by desert guitar, Latin American grooves, and captivating, danceable rhythms. The music unfolds as a vibrant and expressive work that appeals to both listeners seeking depth and those who wish to move to the beat.
The trio consists of Gunni Torp (vocals, harmonica, alto saxophone), Simon Hebeltoft Hansen (vocals, guitar), and Juan Pino (percussion). After years of hosting numerous bars, secret venues, and music festivals, KaniBalkan now launches their debut EP Live Momentum, recorded over two intense concert nights at Teater Momentum in Odense in autumn 2026. The EP captures the band's essence: the unpredictable energy, the tightly synchronized interplay, and the unique bond between the musicians and the audience. The first single, Alim Kokoriko Bijav, tells the story of a solitary night walk without a dance partner – a melancholic and yearning number that through its hypnotic rhythms and blend of sorrow and joy of life is to characterize KaniBalkan's expression.
