Did farmworkers read literature in the early 1900s? This three-part reading group explores the fascinating connection between literature and agriculture—between words and rebellion—through the forgotten cultural and literary history of trade publications.
The reading group is led by researchers from the Workers' Museum project on The Forgotten Cultural and Literary History of Trade Press. In the first session, we dive into literature from 'Tyende-Bladet' and 'Landarbejderen'—both classics and curiosities—using the museum's database of approximately 100,000 digitalized pages of trade publications now freely accessible.
In the second session, we trace the development forward to 1970s literature about agriculture, environment, and new ways of living. The final third session contextualizes Malte Tellerup's novel "Hedeselskabet" in relation to current cultural debates and political reforms of Danish agriculture.
Practical information: Tickets for all three sessions cost 200 DKK and include the related literature event "Malte Tellerup - Agricultural Revolution" as part of the series. Reading materials for the first sessions are accessible via the museum's database; other materials will be provided.
