Experience a rewarding event that combines live music with historical insight and discussion. The songs – classical Korean works from the late 1800s to today – reflect Korea's turbulent development: Western influence, Japanese occupation, and the country's division after World War II. Each piece tells a story of hope, sorrow, and strong national identity.
Tae Jeong Hwang, a classical singer from the Royal Danish Opera, performs 5-6 selected songs accompanied by pianist Seyoung Lee. Throughout the event, you'll explore the meeting of Western and traditional Korean melodies – a musical blend that still shapes today's K-pop.
Bon Hee Goo, an experienced Korean language instructor, moderates the discussion and invites you to reflect on key questions: What does music reveal about a country's history and identity? How do classical works connect to BTS and BLACKPINK? Why has Korean music conquered the world? You participate actively – including learning a simple song with the group – and there is ample room for questions and conversation.
Free admission. Everyone is welcome.
