Participate in a thought-provoking debate about the historical ties between Mexico and Spain. The event explores the lasting legacy of colonialism and its significance for the political and cultural relations between the two countries today.
The evening begins with a brief introduction in easy-to-understand Spanish by Teresa Alcacio, an educator and originally from Mexico. She presents some of the most important historical events that have shaped the relationship between the two nations, focusing on the consequences of colonization, identity and power relations, as well as how the past continues to influence present-day diplomacy.
After the introduction, you are invited to participate actively in the debate - in both Spanish and Danish. Together, we discuss key questions such as the significance of a possible official apology from Spain's king, responsibility for historical injustices, the role of reconciliation and symbolic politics, as well as parallels to Danish conversations about the relationship with Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
