The Danish-Icelandic Society invites you to a conversation with Icelandic director and screenwriter Benedikt Erlingsson at Nordatlantens Brygge. The event focuses on his acclaimed and critically praised television series The Danish Woman, a satirical drama filled with dark humor, music, and absurd situations.
In the series, Danish actress Trine Dyrholm plays a former elite soldier and intelligence agent, Ditte Jensen, who now works as a nurse in Reykjavik. However, she primarily spends her time practicing an extremely extreme form of consequences-based pedagogy towards her neighbors and Icelanders. The series aired on DR in spring and received rave reviews. All six episodes can still be watched on dr.dk.
Benedikt Erlingsson (born 1969) is a director, screenwriter, and actor. He is known as the director behind the feature films Of Horses and Men (2013) and Woman at War (2018), both winners of the Nordic Council Film Prize. He has also appeared in roles in Lars von Trier's The Boss of It All (2006) and Rúnar Rúnarsson's Daylight (2025).
Erlingsson speaks with artist Birgir Thor Møller from Nordatlantens Brygge about the inspiration behind the series and the process of creating this explosive, musical, and often bizarre drama series.
