Experience funky rhythms, hypnotic vocals, and psychedelic experimentation with one of West Africa's most distinctive voices. Noura Mint Seymali interprets Mauritania's rich musical traditions with a modern and visionary approach. The award-winning artist returns to ALICE's concert hall with her formidable live band and the new album "Yenbett" (Glitterbeat Records, 2025).
Noura Mint Seymali comes from a griot family and masters the traditional nine-string ardine harp, which she learned from her grandmother. She was born and raised within Mauritania's deep and diverse musical heritage and became known from age 13 onwards for her powerful vocal and remarkable musical talent. Together with her husband, Jeiche Ould Chighaly—a master of the tidinit instrument—she has created a band that bridges tradition with modernity. Chighaly's characteristic phrasing is translated into electric psych-guitar, and with a solid rhythm section, they create a captivating blend of Saharan funk, psychedelic rock, and West African grooves.
Noura Mint Seymali has gained international recognition through numerous critically acclaimed releases and extensive touring. She was awarded a Womex Artist Award in 2025 and has previously performed at both ALICE and Roskilde Festival, where in 2016 she opened the Orange Scene alongside The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians.
