The Psychiatry Summit 2026 focuses on trauma-informed perspectives in psychiatry and explores how challenging life experiences affect people's wellbeing and development. Rather than asking "What's wrong with you?", the summit examines an alternative approach: "What happened to you?"
A trauma-informed approach is about meeting people with curiosity and respect, understanding how traumas – such as loss, betrayal, violence, abuse, and loneliness – can affect both mental and physical health. The event brings together people with lived experience, healthcare professionals, leaders, researchers, and decision-makers to explore how we can create more holistic psychiatry.
Program:
- Presentations from experts in psychiatry and mental health
- Professional perspectives on trauma-informed practice
- Dialogue groups (registration on first-come, first-served basis)
The event explores what a trauma-informed approach means for healthcare systems, social services, and society, and how we can let new knowledge shape future practice.
