Explore the power and possibilities of language with author Deniz Kiy in this writing workshop on erasure as a literary and political tool. Drawing on theoretical foundations from Solmaz Sharif's essay "Erasure: The Near Transitive Properties of the Political and Poetical," we examine text materials to discover the subject positions and frameworks in which readers are placed.
The questions become: Can we break the power positions that frame us? What strength lies in redactions and palimpsests? What remains of the text's ghosts? The workshop requires no previous writing experience – all are welcome regardless of background. Please note that the text materials are in English.
About the instructor: Deniz Kiy is an award-winning author, educator, and speaker, born in 1994 and a graduate of Forfatterskolen.
