What happens when artists and writers cannot express what they wish to say? This evening at Sydhavn Library explores censorship, artistic freedom and freedom of expression through performance and conversation.
The evening opens at 19:00 with the solo dance work Something That Never Was by Ukrainian choreographer and dancer Anastasia Krasnoshchoka. The work draws on poetry and music from The Executed Renaissance – a generation of Ukrainian artists who were censored and persecuted in the 1930s.
After the performance (19:30), the evening continues with open conversation and questions about how those in power throughout history have controlled narratives and silenced voices. A professor and former chair of Dansk PEN will explore together with the audience which censorship mechanisms recurred through history and which we recognise today – and what that means for our ability to understand one another and the world around us.
