Join a meaningful historical experience commemorating the Danish rescue of Jews in October 1943. This guided tour connects stories of resistance, hope, and freedom with some of Copenhagen's most important memorial sites.
The tour begins in Churchill Park in the open air. Named after Sir Winston Churchill, the park was a powerful symbol of resistance and freedom for many Danes during the occupation. Here, guide Marianne Bentzen unfolds the historical connection between Denmark and Britain, showing how hope for freedom shaped the years 1940-45. The park is surrounded by the Citadel, St. Albans English Church, and the Freedom Museum, and contains numerous monuments linked to the resistance movement.
The tour then moves into the reconstructed Freedom Museum, where you receive an introduction to the museum's history. With an audio guide, you can explore at your own pace the thought-provoking stories in the museum's underground exhibition. Here you encounter personal accounts of resistance members' fates and authentic testimonies that bring the occupation era to life. You gain insight into the pivotal events that shaped Denmark's path to liberation — and experience how resistance was complex and freedom came at a price.
Practical: Group 26222101. Admission to the Freedom Museum is included, and you have the opportunity to explore the exhibition further after the tour.
