Award-winning gender researcher and former ethics director at one of the world's largest tech and media companies, Tess Skadegård Thorsen, presents a critical analysis of technology's role in societal inequality. The lecture explores how technology does not merely reflect existing differences, but actively reinforces and reproduces inequalities based on gender, sexuality, skin color, age, disability, and other factors.
During the event, participants will gain insight into how these mechanisms manifest in everyday technology—from interactions with chatbots and search algorithm bias to algorithmic filtering of streaming content. The lecture delves into important concepts such as technochauvinism and glitch theory, and addresses what it practically means to revise algorithms with a critical perspective.
