Dahlia String Trio and guest musicians present a program of profound classical chamber music exploring the personal inspirations behind two masterworks of European composition.
Bedrich Smetana, founder of Czech national style, composed his first string quartet "From My Life" while suffering from both chronic pain and complete deafness. The work is a groundbreaking programmatic account of his life journey.
Johannes Brahms wrote his second string quintet op. 111 as a "farewell work" – he informed his publisher he was retiring from composition, though his career actually continued for many years to come. The work embodies both a retrospect of his musical legacy and a profound sense of joie de vivre.

- Smetana: String Quartet No. 1 "From My Life"
