What actually defines illness, and who makes that decision? With advancing medical technology, the boundaries for diagnoses become increasingly blurred, which can result in overdiagnosis – the phenomenon where people are wrongly classified as patients without achieving better health or quality of life. This strains both society's resources and the healthcare system's capacity.
Ph.D. Alexandra Brandt Ryborg Jønsson and professor John Brodersen, authors of the book "Soon We Will All Be Patients", address this important topic through both medical and societal perspectives. They explore what overdiagnosis entails, the causes behind the phenomenon, and its consequences for both the individual patient and society as a whole.
"Wild About Science" is a lecture series at Kvarterhuset, supported by Copenhagen Municipality's libraries and the Amager East Local Committee.
