From ancient folk medicine remedies to cutting-edge scientific research: discover how Medical Museion explores what animals can teach us about the human body, health, and medicine.
Learn the history of how humans have used animals for healing over more than 800 years – from beaver oil against arthritis to burnt adder against various ailments. Archaeologist and cultural historian Inge Kjær Kristensen, senior researcher at Museum Salling, presents her research on folk medicine traditions and reveals which surprising – and quite bizarre – cures have been employed.
At the same time, get a glimpse into the modern laboratory where professor Kristian Almstrup from the University of Copenhagen and Rigshospitalet, along with his international research team, investigates why male sperm quality is declining. By studying the world's largest collection of primate testicles – from chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans – they seek answers about what our closest relatives can tell us about human biology and future fertility.
Speakers: Inge Kjær Kristensen and Kristian Almstrup
Following the lecture, champagne will be served (included in the ticket), and the museum's exhibitions remain open until 9 p.m.
