A caring performance about community and hope. OLOLYGA transforms the space into a liminal room through voices, harmonies, and rituals that initiate the audience into fertility treatment as a waiting room – where hope hovers precariously and fear creeps across the floor.
The performance is part of artist Nan Na Hvass' exhibition A ROOM TO WAIT IN, which explores the duality between isolation and community. The exhibition originates from a personal memory of undergoing fertility treatment, lying behind a curtain in a high-ceilinged room with identical cubicles – separated, yet surrounded by other women in the same situation. A space both intimate and structural, private and political.
The performers function as ritually present guides in a caring interplay with handmade textiles. Through harmonies following the female cycle's rhythmic repetition, a chanting and healing atmosphere is created. OLOLYGA is an interdisciplinary artist collective – Amalie Ulla Schiemann-Pontoppidan, Camilla Kold, Karin Hald, Malene Iskov, and Tanja Diers – working with a care-aesthetic method where listening is placed at the center. Their autobiographical works explore fertility treatment, motherhood, body changes, loss, longing, and hope through text, performance, sound composition, and ritual listening practices.
