Experience Dele Sosimi, the Nigerian-British Afrobeat Ambassador, as he performs at Stairway with an evening of Afrobeat, funk grooves, and traditional Nigerian music. African rhythms and jazz merge in a performance that resonates through your entire body.
Dele Sosimi has been a pivotal figure on the global Afrobeat scene since settling in the UK in December 1995. As a teenager, he was a member of Fela Kuti's legendary band Egypt 80, and he later partnered with childhood friend Femi Kuti to establish Positive Force, which toured and recorded worldwide. Over more than forty years, he remains a dedicated ambassador for this unique musical movement.
His style combines complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion, and jazz elements—all performed with his signature keyboard virtuosity and rhythmic vocals. Throughout his career, he has performed at festivals including Montreux Jazz Festival, Mawazine Festival in Rabat, and Copenhagen Jazz Festival. He served as music consultant for the National Theatre's production of Fela! and has collaborated multiple times with pioneer Tony Allen. His recent collaborations include projects with Estuary 21, electronic artists, and the Afro-Latin band Cubafrobeat, resulting in albums such as »You No Fit Touch Am« and the latest work »The Confluence«.
