The Secretary General of Folkekirkens Nødhjælp presents a topical lecture on humanitarian aid in an era when international conflicts escalate and trust between nations weakens. The starting point is his new book Ideals in a Cynical Age, from which he draws parallels to situations on multiple continents.
Jonas Nøddekær shares concrete experiences and stories from work in Gaza, Sudan, Syria and DR Congo – areas where humanitarian aid meets geopolitical complexity and moral dilemmas. He addresses questions about what happens when solidarity and cooperation give way to power and cynicism.
The lecture is both critical and inspiring – it raises important questions about human rights and international cooperation, but concludes with a reflection on the significance of hope. After 25 years working for the organization, including as country director in Ethiopia, Cambodia and Myanmar, Nøddekær brings deep insight into humanitarian work on a global scale.
The event is free but requires pre-registration via noedhjaelp.dk.
