Discover the vibrant Italian folk dance tradition at Thorvaldsens Museum, where you will learn the basic steps of Saltarello – one of central Italy's most characteristic dances. Instructor Simona Fioretti, who comes from Umbria and has deep expertise in Italian traditions, guides you through the dance in the museum's magnificent foyer.
The workshop draws inspiration from the museum's newly opened special exhibition Life, Longing & Landscape – Thorvaldsens' Paintings Collection and gives you the chance to "bring the paintings to life" through movement and music. With stories about the cultural traditions behind the dances, you will gain insight into both technique and context.
The event is informal and open to all adults without prior experience – you do not necessarily dance in pairs. To conclude, you will enjoy a glass of Italian wine from the Saltarello region, included in the price, and you will have the opportunity to view the exhibition.
