Snow and Sand is a Danish children's theatre production that explores a child's everyday life when reality becomes difficult. Johan is locked out of his apartment block with snow falling around him, waiting for his mother to come home – but when that will happen is uncertain.
The performance depicts Johan's struggle to handle the challenges of daily life. His mother is constantly working, and his parents no longer live together, so the boy must find ways to manage on his own. He escapes into his imagination to make sense of what happens around him – because if you tell yourself stories about life, everything seems less terrible. But what happens when his imagination spirals out of control? Between snowball fights, love, disappointment and revelations, a picture emerges of a child forced to grow up too soon.
