A truly special artistic encounter when Royal Ballet solo dancer Astrid Grarup Elbo and musician and composer Katrine Grarup Elbo (her sister) present a performatively created experiential space where dance and music meet as equal artistic expressions. The audience is invited into a living interplay between the two artists.
Astrid Grarup Elbo explores the traditions of ballet and questions the stereotypes and female roles she has been expected to dance throughout her life. She investigates what happens when the ballerina steps out of her role, breaks with objectification, and speaks for herself. As a solo dancer at the Royal Ballet, she received five stars in 2023 for her lead role in I AM GOLD at Betty Nansen Theatre. Katrine Grarup Elbo works at the intersection of composition, improvisation, performance, and installation – she explores how music can emerge in the encounter between spaces, bodies, and people. Together they are the artistic driving force behind La Mia Bella Sorella, where the goal is to blur the boundaries between dance and music.
From fragments of earlier works emerges a new, living performance where composition, improvisation, dance, and sound continuously influence each other. An afternoon about freedom and tradition, body and sound – and about what can happen when artists dare to enter each other's universe.
