Vocal and Instrumental Jazz with Icelandic Roots

Icelandic pianist, composer and singer Sigurdís Tryggvadóttir presents her debut album Bergmál fjallanna (Echo of the Mountains) with her jazz trio. After spending several years in Denmark, she has developed a new perspective on her Icelandic heritage, exploring through music how memories, stories and voices can take on new forms.

The album blends jazz, classical piano and Icelandic folk music, creating a poetic sonic universe that combines Sigurdís' own compositions with poems and songs by her great-uncle, Jónas Tryggvason. The music draws inspiration from their shared homeland in northwest Iceland with its stunning landscapes and shifting atmospheres.

Alongside bassist Mariusz Prasniewski and drummer Péter Horváth, the music unfolds in a dynamic space between composition and improvisation. The audience is invited into a universe exploring connection, dreams, sorrow and love – experiences that unite us across time and place.
