Explore literature's most famous vampire when Kulturstationen Vanløse hosts an evening about Dracula. From Bram Stoker's gothic classic of 1897 to the iconic figure that has shaped film, fashion, and popular culture over more than 125 years.
Three cultural voices explore Dracula from their own perspectives: author and translator Jakob Levinsen discusses Stoker's novel and his work on the new Danish translation, film journalist Maria Månson examines cinematic interpretations from Bela Lugosi to modern vampires, and fashion and cultural expert Chris Pedersen investigates Dracula as an aesthetic icon within gothic subculture, punk, and contemporary fashion. Cultural mediator Dennis Jacob Hess Rosenfeld moderates the conversation and weaves together literature, film, and fashion.
What still fascinates us about the vampire? Why does Dracula return again and again in stories about sex, fear, desire, death, and identity? This evening explores how a literary character became a globally recognized cultural phenomenon.
The event is part of Copenhagen Libraries' festival Vild med videnskab, which takes place at libraries across the municipality in October-November with lectures and talks for adults on academic literature and science.
