Meet the Belarusian author, lawyer and musician Maksim Znak, who spent over five years in prison for his work for democracy and rule of law. Despite his imprisonment, he continued to write and create, and now comes to Denmark to share his experiences and works.
The evening offers literature, music and in-depth conversation. Maksim performs old and new songs – including works created behind bars without paper or instrument – and talks about his books Zekameron and Kalanisty (The Colonizers), which explore the absurdity, humour and human dignity of prison life. As a lawyer, he presents his research on the Belarusian legal system and the mechanisms of repression.
There will be time for questions and open discussion about freedom, Belarus and literature. Pizza and drinks will be provided, and you will have the opportunity to purchase books and get them signed.
