Europe's green transition has become one of the continent's most important political projects. In a short time, climate and energy policy has evolved from an environmental issue to a critical matter of security, economy and Europe's global role.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has made Europe's dependence on fossil fuels a security policy challenge, while the climate crisis simultaneously demands rapid and far-reaching changes. The EU has set some of the world's most ambitious climate targets and implemented major reforms toward climate neutrality. However, resistance is growing: rising energy prices, job concerns, agricultural crisis and fear of transition moving too fast are putting the agenda under pressure.
The evening's debate focuses on key questions: Who drives the green transition? EU institutions? Business and market? Or civil society, activists and citizens pushing politicians to act? And how do we ensure the transition is ambitious, socially just and democratically anchored?
