Moor Mother US

Afrofuturist rapper and activist Moor Mother (Camae Ayewa) returns to ALICE with a concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of her groundbreaking album "Fetish Bones" from 2016. Through noise montages and dystopian rap, she delivers uncompromising protest music that speaks directly to our time.

"Fetish Bones" was hailed by music press worldwide—notably The Wire, which ranked it in the top-5 albums that year alongside David Bowie and Autechre, while Jazz Right Now declared it album of the year. A decade later, it remains equally innovative and urgently relevant.

Moor Mother draws from sources like Fugazi and Alice Coltrane, which she samples, deconstructs, and transforms into compact soundscapes filled with harsh noise and tumultuous sonic infernos. Over these complex textures, she raps relentlessly about life as a racialized woman in the USA, woven with themes of violence, sexism, and racism. As music magazine Spin wrote: "protest music that can actually resonate in the 21st century." Beyond her solo work, she has shaped the alternative music scene through Irreversible Entanglements, 700 Bliss, and numerous collaborations.
