Why do some in power throughout history try to control art and stories? What happens to societies when certain voices are silenced? This evening at Nørrebro Library explores censorship, freedom of expression and the role of art in a democratic society through dance, performance and dialogue.
The evening opens with a performance of Anastasia Krasnoshchoka's solo dance work, which draws on poetry and music from The Executed Renaissance – a generation of Ukrainian artists who were censored and persecuted in the 1930s. After the work, Anastasia joins human rights activist Mikkel Iversen for a conversation about censorship today and throughout history, and the importance of art for freedom and democracy. The conversation takes place in English and invites the audience to listen or participate actively.
Programme:
- 6:30–7:00 Performance: Something That Never Was
- 7:00–7:30 Conversation and Questions
