An evening on artistic freedom, censorship and cultural erasure. The dance performance Something That Never Was by Ukrainian choreographer Anastasia Krasnoshchoka draws inspiration from poetry and music of The Executed Renaissance – a generation of Ukrainian artists and writers who faced censorship and persecution in the 1930s. Through dance, music and poetry, the work gives voice to those whose contributions were nearly erased from history.
The performance is followed by a conversation with Maria-Ecaterina Nistor from The Research Bridge about cultural erasure, artistic freedom and the right to produce and share knowledge. What happens to society when voices are silenced? And who decides which histories we learn about?
After the performance and talk, you're invited to a relaxed lounge with snacks, where Mariia performs an ambient DJ set and you can continue conversations at your own pace.
