Experience an artistic fusion of literature and music as Mette Holm, translator of Haruki Murakami's works into Danish, reads stories from Murakami's universe. The event is anchored in the novella "Charly Parker plays Bossa Nova" and explores the captivating blend of words, jazz, and classical music.
The program consists of two parts: first 60 minutes centred on Murakami's musical novella from the short story collection Norwegian Wood (published in Danish in 2020), where the boundaries between Charlie Parker and bossa nova become fascinatingly blurred. Then – after a break – 30 minutes of excerpts from his newer works.
Three accomplished musicians – Makiko Hirabayasi (piano), Jan Harbech (saxophone), and Morten Ankarfeldt (bass) – bring the music to life, while Mette Holm reads and interprets texts from the world-renowned Japanese author. Together, they illuminate how Murakami uses music as a central tool in his writing.
