Experience 400-year-old sock knitting traditions and try your hand at recreating historical designs. The workshop combines a lecture, display of archaeological finds, and practical instruction.
You will meet sock knitter and designer Birgit Kønig, who has recreated a design from an original sock discovered during excavations at Rådhuspladsen during the Metro construction. Archaeologist and museum curator Mia Toftdal shares the history of these socks, and Birgit presents over 60 socks plus various casting-on techniques.
After the introduction, you begin your own workshop lasting approximately 1-1.5 hours, where you receive knitting instructions and personal guidance to start your own socks based on historical patterns. Additional patterns are available for purchase at 15 kr. each, with proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders.
